BREATH : Everything you need to know for a Breathwork Journey

A Portal Into the Living Mystery
Breath is our first teacher.
It greets us at birth, carries us through every moment of living, and releases us at death.
Long before we had language, ritual, or medicine, we had breath.
Breathwork is the art of consciously working with life force energy - our most immediate and accessible form of medicine. Through intentional breathing practices, we can gently influence our nervous system, access deeper layers of awareness, and restore harmony to the body, mind, and spirit. Breath is our most ancient companion - quietly carrying life force, memory, and intelligence through every cell. When we learn to work consciously with the breath, we are not learning something new. We are remembering something old.
Breathwork is a doorway into altered states of awareness, deep somatic healing, and communion with the unseen. It is one of the most direct and powerful tools we have for transformation because it works with the body, the nervous system, and consciousness simultaneously.
What Is Breathwork?
Breath is our internal life force, our personal expression of pneuma, spirit moving through form. It's also the only part of the autonomic nervous system we can consciously control, meaning that through the breath, we have a direct pathway into regulating our stress response, calming the body, and opening doorways to healing.
Breathwork is the practice of using specific breathing techniques to create physiological, emotional, and spiritual shifts. As we learn to work with the breath intentionally, we also learn how to work with our inner world - our patterns, emotions, sensations, and stories. By consciously shaping the breath, we access deeper layers of being. As the breath changes, brainwave states shift, the nervous system reorganizes, and long-held patterns - physical, emotional, and energetic - begin to loosen.
As we master our breath, we master our relationship to life.
Breath is medicine.
The Sacred Breath Method
Kelsey is a 500hr trained practitioner of The Sacred Breath Method, a conscious, connected breathing practice using continuous circular breathing - breathing without pause, allowing the inhale and exhale to flow as one unbroken current.
This seamless flow of breath creates a safe and unrestrained space for deeper therapeutic work and lasting healing. This method creates a safe yet expansive container where the mind softens, the body opens, and consciousness can move beyond its usual boundaries.
During a session, you will lie down and be guided into full diaphragmatic breathing, inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth. Rather than activating the sympathetic “fight or flight” response, this technique supports the parasympathetic nervous system - inviting deep relaxation, regulation, and surrender. As the body feels safe, it becomes willing to release what it has been holding.
By supporting the parasympathetic state, the body is able to soften, unwind, and safely explore whatever arises. Rather than forcing release, the breath gently invites it. This state allows access to altered states of consciousness where healing can occur beyond words - through sensation, memory, emotion, energy, and direct knowing.
Each session concludes with Shavasana, an intentional and spacious integration period where you rest in the expanded state created by the breath. This allows the nervous system to absorb and anchor the experience so its benefits weave into the body and psyche well beyond the session itself.
Why Practice Breathwork?
Modern life keeps many of us living in a near-constant state of activation. Breathwork offers a powerful counterbalance - a way to return home to the body and restore our natural rhythm.
Through conscious breathing, we can:
- Support detoxification (over 70% of the body’s detoxification occurs through the breath)
- Increase vitality (approximately 90% of our energy comes from oxygen)
- Purify and alkalize the blood
- Cleanse, strengthen, and nourish the entire body
- Shift brainwave states and enter altered states of consciousness
- Access deeper healing across the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual layers
Breathwork opens a potent portal for healing potential and transformational alchemy.
Benefits of Breathwork
Physical
Breathwork oxygenates the body, supports detoxification, and helps restore balance to the nervous and immune systems.
Mental
By gently accessing the subconscious, breathwork allows us to see more clearly, loosen habitual thought patterns, and build new neurological pathways.
Emotional
The breath provides a safe container to feel, express, and transmute stored emotions without needing to analyze or relive stories.
Spiritual
Each session meets you exactly where you are. Many experience a deep sense of connection to intuition, to life force, and to the divine. This is where breath becomes prayer, and the ordinary opens into mystery.
What to Expect in a Session
Conscious, connected breathwork creates specific physiological changes in the body and can result in powerful somatic and emotional experiences. Each journey is unique, guided by the innate intelligence of your body and breath. While every journey is different, participants may experience:
- Tingling, buzzing, or vibrating sensations
- Somatic unwinding and trauma release
- Emotional expression or catharsis
- The sensation of life force energy (prana) moving through the body
- Trembling, shaking, or spontaneous movement
- The unlocking of repressed sensual or shakti energy
- Deep states of peace, insight, or expansion
Some sensations such as tetany (temporary tightness in the hands, jaw, or elsewhere) are normal and occur as blood is oxygenated and stored energy begins to move and release.
These experiences are held in a grounded, trauma-informed container where nothing is forced and everything unfolds at its own pace.
Preparing for Your Journey
What to bring:
- Eye mask
- Journal and pen
- Optional altar or sacred items
- Tissues, hair ties, lip balm
- Comfortable clothing and layers
Before your session:
- Eat lightly and mindfully the day of your journey
- Avoid heavy foods, gluten, dairy, caffeine, sugar, alcohol, and recreational drugs
- Choose nourishing foods like soups, salads, smoothies, and clean proteins
- Minimize screen time and technology before and after your session
These preparations help create a clearer, more receptive field for your experience.
Is Breathwork Right for You?
Conscious, connected breathwork creates specific physiological changes and can lead to intense physical or emotional experiences. For this reason, all participants review a list of contraindications prior to booking.
If full breathwork is not appropriate, gentle or modified breath practices may still be available and can be explored together.
Your safety, sovereignty, and nervous system integrity are always centered, and your safety and wellbeing are always prioritized.
Invitation
Through the breath, we soften the grip of the mind, listen to the wisdom of the body, and allow life force to move where it has been waiting.
If you feel the quiet pull toward this work, you are welcome here.
Your breath already knows the way.
